The Eating Room
The Eating Room was the grandest room in the House, and will generally be used for formal meetings.
The room is the largest single room in the house and can hold up to 55 people lecture style, or 30 people for a
round table conference.
Whilst the four corner columns add a wonderful sense of history and atmosphere, the room is well equipped to accommodate
all types of meetings and conferences. DVD, Video, OHP and even slide projectors are available to groups hiring all our rooms,
as are TVs, DVDs and video players . . and we can even provide the odd flip chart or two if you prefer to shun modern technology!
The Servants Hall
This room is the smaller of the two dining rooms, and is generally used for private functions and meals. The room is often used as a
private dining room by conference guests, and also proved very popular for people wishing to book a private and intimate family celebration.
This room is ideally equipped for hosting a meal of up to 40 people.
The Old Drawing Room
The oldest room in the house, this room is available for use in conference, lecture or seminar style. This room is normally hired out
as a joint package together with the 'Central Drawing Room'. The Old Drawing Room tends to be used as the main meeting room . . . ..
The Central Drawing Room
. . . leaving the adjacent central drawing room free for use as a Break Out Room, or for enjoying morning coffee, afternoon tea or Chef's
special buffet lunch. The rooms are separated by double doors, to form one exclusive conference suite.
This room is situated exactly on the main axis running throughout the building, so is
ideal fro appreciating the symmetry of the design of the house and the way in which Humphrey Repton planted out the grounds 200 years ago!
The Old Kitchen
This room is not generally hired out, as it opens every day from 11am - 4pm as our restaurant and tea-rooms. The room can
comfortably host up to 50 people if used for a private function, and is ideally situated for wheelchairs having the main disabled access
into the building.
This room was originally used as the kitchen, but such are the fine architectural features of the room - including the vaulted ceiling -
that it has been designated as one of the key public areas of the house.
The Old Library
The Old Library has a wonderful window looking out towards the East Terrace. This room is used for private afternoon tea parties and
is sometimes used by conferences as a break out or dining area.
Originally this was Mr Thornton's library, if visiting the room do appreciate the fine painting of him as a child above the fireplace!
The Semi-Circular Landing
This has been one of the most popular areas during guided tours. The Oculus allows natural light from the Roof Lantern to
travel through two floors and flood the Ground Floor Hallway.
The Boudoir / Chapel
Again, this room will not be let out but will be open to anyone who needs some time and space during the day.
The room looks out over the East Entrance and is ideal for private meditation, prayer or personal reflection.
